Valentines Day at Hagley



February 13 – Saturday – 12:30 to 4 p.m.


Victorian’s Valentine Day






Families will love this afternoon of crafts and activities. Visitors taste gingerbread, make a Victorian Valentine using the “scrap” method, write Valentine verses with a quill pen, and learn a nineteenth-century handcraft. A special exhibit featuring antique Valentine cards and candy wrappers will be on display. Activities are included in regular admission. The Belin House will also offer an afternoon tea. Tea reservations are required, please call 302-425-5540. Use the museum’s main entrance off of Route 141 in Wilmington, Delaware.

PNC Free Sunday Mornings

Admission to the Delaware Museum of Natural History will be waived from 9:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010 courtesy of the PNC Foundation. This PNC Free Sunday Morning is part of a grant from the PNC Foundation's Grow Up Great with Science initiative.



Grow Up Great with Science provides local preschool children with opportunities to learn science basics and experience related activities that are educational and fun. The Delaware Museum of Natural History is using the funding to train local preschool teachers and introduce families of preschool children to science through visits to the museum's interactive exhibits. Museum experts will also travel to classrooms to help teachers create children's activities that enable them to explore science with their senses and use simple tools to test their ideas. Many of the activities receive assistance from PNC employees as volunteers.

This PNC Free Sunday Morning on second of three at the Delaware Museum of Natural History during the 2009-2010 school year. The last PNC Free Sunday Morning will be on May 23, 2010.

Free Camp and Summer Program Fair


Greater West Chester Camp & Summer Programs Fair

There will be representatives from about 100 programs for all ages through high school ready to speak with families. The programs include residential, day, special needs, and sport camps; community service, travel, adventure, fine & performing arts, language immersion, computer, environmental, and pre-college programs; and many more. Many of the programs offer scholarships. The Fair is open to the public, with free admission, parking and a Summer Programs Guide with information about all the programs.

There will also be booths where families can gather information about the “Think S*A*F*E” program sponsored by the Chester County Sheriff’s Office and learn more about internet safety from the PA Attorney General’s Office. The Mommy’s Light Lives on Fund also will have a table to share information and sell their Mommy’s Light in the Kitchen cookbook in support of their services for bereaved families.

Read Aloud Tours for Children

Thursday Mornings in February and March



Introduce children to the Brandywine River Museum through Read-Aloud Tours. Held on six Thursday mornings from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., the tours begin on February 4 and continue through March 11. The tours feature story time in the gallery followed by an art-making activity for children ages 3 to 6 accompanied by an adult.
